CJP alleges deliberate delays in release of its leaders, Ranka and Das remain in custody

Human rights organization Citizens for Justice and Peace issued a strong public statement alleging intentional procedural roadblocks engineered by jail authorities to forestall the release of its organizational leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das. Despite having secured favorable bail orders from designated judicial magistrates, both activists remained detained behind bars inside correctional facilities.

Legal representatives representing CJP stated that jail superintendents repeatedly raised hyper-technical objections regarding surety verification documents and local address authentication to stall release warrants. The organization argued that using bureaucratic red tape to prolong custody after judicial grant of bail directly violates constitutional liberties and undermines the authority of the judiciary.

CJP coordinators confirmed that an urgent mentioning will be made before the high court seeking penal action against responsible prison personnel for wilful disobedience of court bail directives. Civil rights advocates echoed concerns, noting that judicial officers have repeatedly warned that mechanical delays in releasing undertrial prisoners upon bail confirmation constitute actionable illegal confinement.
