Coal India’s production increases 19% as mining recovers after monsoon slump

State-owned mining conglomerate Coal India Limited reported a robust 19 percent expansion in coal production during October, marking a decisive recovery as opencast mining operations resumed full operational velocity following seasonal monsoon disruptions. Heavy precipitation and localized pit flooding throughout August and September had hampered extraction activity across primary mining fields in Jharkhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh. The operational rebound allowed the public sector behemoth to scale daily output and replenish depleted stockpiles across major thermal power generation plants nationwide.

Company operational bulletins indicated that dispatches to the domestic power utility sector experienced double-digit growth as railway logistics networks ramped up freight wagon availability from major pitheads. Coal India management reiterated its commitment to meeting annual domestic production targets, emphasizing enhanced equipment deployment, continuous overburden removal, and expanded digital monitoring across large mechanized surface mines. Power sector analysts commended the rapid production turnaround, noting that robust fuel reserves are vital for maintaining grid stability and meeting peak autumn industrial electricity demand.
