Vikram Bhatt’s horror sequel Haunted 3D Echoes of the Past emerged as the surprise leader among new Hindi releases on its opening day, collecting Rs 2.5 crore net and Rs 2.95 crore gross across 2,907 shows. Trade trackers put average occupancy at 15.7 percent, a modest but workable start for a genre title without marquee star billing.
The film outpaced several higher-profile competitors in the same window. Main Vaapas Aaunga, directed by Imtiaz Ali and starring Diljit Dosanjh, opened at Rs 1.15 crore, while Kangana Ranaut’s Bharat Bhagya Vidhata took Rs 1 crore. Governor managed Rs 90 lakh and Disclosure Day Rs 1.8 crore.
Exhibitors said the horror entry benefited from franchise recognition and lower audience risk compared with political drama or experimental romance. Bhatt’s team has marketed the installment as a continuation of the 3D scare format that defined the original Haunted release years earlier.
Analysts cautioned that day-one figures alone rarely predict final totals, especially when multiple mid-budget films split screens. Still, the opening gives Bhatt leverage for holdover shows into the second week if word of mouth stabilizes among core horror fans.
