Hyderabad space-tech startups petition government for dedicated Space City testing infrastructure

A consortium of private space-technology startups and aerospace manufacturers based in Hyderabad petitioned state and central authorities to establish a dedicated ‘Space City’ equipped with shared testing infrastructure.

The industrial group, representing launch vehicle developers, propulsion engineers, and satellite subsystem manufacturers in Telangana, submitted a formal representation outlining infrastructure bottlenecks confronting private space enterprises. The startups emphasized that testing rocket engines, cryogenic components, and structural satellite frames requires expensive specialized infrastructure, such as high-altitude static test stands, thermal vacuum chambers, and acoustic vibration bays, which individual early-stage ventures cannot fund independently.

The petition urged the Telangana state government to collaborate with IN-SPACe and the Department of Space to develop a centralized testing corridor near Hyderabad. Startups highlighted that common testing facilities would dramatically lower qualification costs, shorten development timelines, and establish the region as an aerospace innovation capital.

Government officials acknowledged receipt of the industry proposal, indicating that feasibility studies for aerospace testing hubs are under active evaluation.

Hyderabad has emerged as a major hub for India’s burgeoning private space economy, housing innovative aerospace startups including Skyroot Aerospace and Dhruva Space. Industry representatives emphasized that establishing shared state-of-the-art testing centers within Telangana would reduce reliance on overseas testing facilities, foster high-tech manufacturing employment, and accelerate commercial deployment schedules for indigenous small satellite launch vehicles.
