IMD Issues Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Alert for Northeast India West Bengal and Sikkim for Five Days

The India Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of northeast India, West Bengal and Sikkim over a five-day period.

The forecast predicts rainfall of around 7 to 20 centimetres over the coming week across the northeastern states and the Sub-Himalayan region. Warnings have been issued to communities in the affected areas.

Intense monsoon rainfall in these hilly and high-rainfall regions raises the risk of landslides, flooding and disruption to transport and daily life. Authorities typically advise residents to remain cautious and follow official guidance during such spells.

The alert reflects the IMD’s role in providing early warnings to help states and local administrations prepare for and respond to severe weather conditions during the monsoon season.
