India facing a balance of payments deficit of about $60 billion in FY27, says Geojit strategist

Geojit strategist Vijayakumar warned on June 14, 2026, that India could face a balance-of-payments deficit of about $60 billion in fiscal year 2027 if capital outflows and high energy import bills persist without offsetting inflows.

The assessment assumes continued foreign-portfolio selling and limited recovery in services exports, stressing the need for stable foreign-direct investment in manufacturing.

Policy makers have responded with central-bank swap facilities and roadshows to diaspora investors, yet the strategist argued structural current-account pressures remain.

Economists debating the figure note sensitivity to oil-price paths and global rate cycles, variables that could swing the projection materially within quarters.
