India-UAE Joint Military Exercise ‘Mountain Guardian 2026’ commences in Chaubatia, Uttarakhand

Troops of the Indian Army’s Bhairav Battalion and specialized mountain infantry units from the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces commenced the inaugural joint military exercise ‘Mountain Guardian 2026’ in Chaubatia, Uttarakhand. The two-week bilateral training engagement focuses on refining interoperability, high-altitude tactical navigation, and specialized counter-terrorism drills in rugged mountainous environments under Chapter VII of the United Nations mandate.

The operational curriculum encompasses joint planning exercises, live firing drills with modern small arms, tactical heliborne insertion operations, and specialized combat survival methodologies across challenging terrain gradients. Officers from both contingents highlighted that the exercise provides a valuable forum for exchanging battle-tested operational tactics, sharing counter-insurgency experiences, and testing specialized mountain warfare equipment.

Senior defense officials indicated that the joint drill demonstrates the deepening strategic and defense partnership between New Delhi and Abu Dhabi. The exercise will culminate in a comprehensive forty-eight-hour simulated tactical counter-terror validation maneuver testing rapid crisis response and coordinated perimeter securing protocols.
