Israel Presses US to Prevent Unfreezing of Iranian Assets as Part of Ceasefire Agreement

Israeli officials lobbied the Trump administration to prevent the unfreezing of Iranian assets as part of any ceasefire agreement with Tehran, diplomatic sources said Friday.

Jerusalem argued that releasing frozen funds would allow Iran to rebuild military capabilities and support proxy groups across the region. Washington had not publicly committed to either releasing or maintaining the restrictions.

The push came as President Donald Trump announced progress toward ending the war with Iran, though Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said no deal had been finalized.

Analysts said the dispute over frozen assets could become a major sticking point even if negotiators reach a broader military ceasefire.

Earlier developments involved part of any peace settlement.

Diplomatic sources on June 12, 2026 said reopening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting shipping restrictions remained central to any ceasefire arrangement.
