Judges rejected an emergency appeal seeking to block its removal

Federal judges rejected an emergency appeal seeking to block removal of President Donald Trump’s name from the Kennedy Center.

The ruling cleared the way for crews to dismantle signage added after the board voted in December to rename the venue.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper had previously held that only Congress possesses authority to rename the federally chartered institution.

Workers began stripping letters around 1:20 a.m. Saturday after missing a Friday midnight compliance deadline.

Plaintiffs who challenged the renaming said the decision preserves the center’s original identity.
