Kerala High Court’s Example Prompted Supreme Court To Strive For Better Standards: Justice SVN Bhatti At Platinum Jubilee

Supreme Court Justice S.V.N. Bhatti delivered an inspiring address at the Kerala High Court Platinum Jubilee celebrations, praising the institution’s pioneering legal culture, intellectual rigor, and judicial independence. Speaking alongside Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and Kerala High Court Chief Justice Soumen Sen, Justice Bhatti remarked that the exceptional institutional standards set by the Kerala High Court frequently inspired the Supreme Court of India to elevate its own jurisprudence. He commended the high court’s historic record of progressive constitutional adjudication and accessible legal aid initiatives.

Turning his attention to junior practitioners entering the legal profession, Justice Bhatti cautioned against excessive reliance on automated legal software and algorithmic research tools at the expense of authentic courtroom craft. He advised young advocates to spend hours observing seasoned senior counsel argue in open court, mastering the nuances of human advocacy, judicial demeanor, and professional courtroom ethics. The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of digital legal archives and commemorative publications celebrating seven and a half decades of judicial excellence in Kerala.
