Veteran center Kiah Stokes anchored a dominant defensive performance on Monday night to propel the Golden State Valkyries past the Atlanta Dream in a crucial Game 5 encounter of the WNBA Finals. The seasoned rim protector delivered her most impactful performance of the postseason, altering shots in the paint, controlling the defensive glass, and facilitating interior ball movement to give Golden State a decisive series edge.
Stokes made her presence felt from the opening tip, disrupting Atlanta’s dribble penetration and finishing with double-digit rebounds alongside multiple blocked shots. Her ability to neutralize Atlanta’s frontcourt scorers allowed the Valkyries’ perimeter guards to apply aggressive ball pressure without conceding easy backdoor cuts. Offensively, Stokes contributed crucial putbacks and screen assists that unlocked high-percentage perimeter looks for her teammates.
Teammates and coaches lauded Stokes’ veteran poise and selfless leadership, noting that her physical presence inside provided stability during moments of intense pressure. As Golden State prepares for Game 6 in Atlanta, Stokes’ interior defense and rebounding tenacity remain fundamental to the team’s championship aspirations.
