Malviya Nagar Fire 10 Police Personnel Among Those Injured During Rescue Operations

A fire at Flourish Stay B&B in Hauz Rani, Malviya Nagar, killed at least 21 people on June 3, 2026, including 18 foreign nationals, Delhi authorities said.

Police said the blaze was likely caused by a short circuit inside a building filled with combustible decor. Investigators found the property operated 26 rooms despite a permit for six and lacked a fire department No Objection Certificate.

Owner Lavkesh Bajaj was arrested on culpable homicide charges. Delhi Fire Services deployed 10 tenders around 8:48 a.m. as smoke filled narrow lanes in South Delhi.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia for families of the deceased and Rs 5 lakh for seriously injured survivors. Fifteen victims were treated at Max Hospital Saket, where six remained on ventilators.

Delhi Police said at least 10 officers sustained injuries during rescue operations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences and directed state governments to strengthen fire-safety enforcement at guest accommodations.
