Ministry of Railways developing Rs 307 crore maintenance hub at Sabarmati for Vande Bharat trains

Western Railway’s Ahmedabad Division commenced advanced civil works on a comprehensive train maintenance depot at Sabarmati, backed by a sanctioned investment of Rs 307 crore from the Ministry of Railways. The dedicated facility is specifically engineered to provide major structural overhauls, high-tech bogie diagnostics, and periodic scheduled maintenance for 24-coach Vande Bharat express trainsets operating along western rail corridors.

The modern complex will feature state-of-the-art automated exterior wash plants, synchronized elevated pit-lines, underfloor wheel re-profiling lathes, and digital testing bays designed to accelerate train inspection cycles. Railway engineers stated that centralizing heavy maintenance operations at Sabarmati will drastically reduce train turnaround times while guaranteeing strict safety protocols for high-speed passenger services.

Senior railway officials noted that the infrastructure initiative directly supports the ongoing nationwide rollout of long-distance semi-high-speed sleeper and chair-car train networks. Upon reaching full operational capacity, the depot will service high-density passenger routes connecting Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi, and surrounding northern states.
