NCDRC Refuses to Condone 179-Day Delay in Filing Appeal as Appellant Failed to Show Sufficient Cause

India’s National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission dismissed an appeal Thursday after refusing to condone a 179-day filing delay, saying the appellant showed insufficient cause.

The consumer panel applies strict limitation rules and requires documented explanations for lapsed deadlines in refund and deficiency disputes.

Commissioners concluded the petitioner failed to demonstrate illness, court closures or other compelling reasons that justified the extended lag.

Consumer lawyers said the order reinforces that appellate windows in NCDRC matters will not bend without credible supporting affidavits.

The original district-level findings therefore stand, closing a prolonged challenge in the underlying service complaint.
