Odisha CM Mohan Majhi sanctions ₹658 crore for Puri urban heritage projects under ABADHA

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi sanctioned a financial package of ₹658 crore for vital urban heritage infrastructure works in Puri under the state’s Augmentation of Basic Amenities and Development of Heritage and Architecture scheme. The state cabinet cleared the expenditure to accelerate comprehensive drainage modernization, parking logistics, and pilgrim corridor beautification ahead of upcoming religious festivals.

The funded civil works encompass widening critical access roads connecting the Shree Jagannath Temple, installing underground stormwater conduits to prevent seasonal monsoon inundation, and creating pedestrian-friendly heritage zones. Specialized conservation engineers will also execute structural restoration works around ancient water bodies and historic monastic establishments across the coastal town.

Urban planning authorities stressed that the infrastructural overhaul will significantly enhance visitor handling capacity while preserving the architectural sanctity of the holy city. Tourism bodies and local business federations commended the allocation, expecting improved civic infrastructure to boost religious tourism and streamline town traffic management year-round.
