Old video of a mock drill in Karnataka falsely shared as an India-China confrontation in Arunachal Pradesh

A viral video shared across social messaging platforms claiming to depict Chinese military personnel interrogating and detaining Indian soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh was debunked by Indian fact-checking organization Factly. The low-resolution clip, which prompted national security concerns online, was falsely presented as evidence of an unannounced border skirmish along the sensitive Line of Actual Control.

Through reverse image searches and geolocation analysis, Factly established that the recording actually captured an April 2026 routine counter-terrorism tactical mock drill conducted by regional security forces near Devanahalli in Karnataka. The participants in tactical uniforms were Indian security personnel and local police conducting standard simulation protocols, bearing no connection to Chinese troops or border infrastructure in northeastern India.

Defense analysts and local law enforcement reiterated that routine tactical exercises conducted in southern states are regularly miscaptioned by malicious social media accounts to incite regional panic. Security officials urged the public and digital platforms to cross-check defense-related claims with official press releases issued by the Ministry of Defence before amplifying unverified military footage.
