Over 100 mills commence sugar production

More than 100 sugar manufacturing facilities across India have started seasonal crushing activities for the 2026–27 marketing period, according to industrial statistics compiled by the Indian Sugar and Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association. The industry body verified that 107 processing mills have initiated operational crushing shifts across major agricultural territories, including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu.

The commencement of seasonal operations signals a timely start to the annual cane harvest, supported by favorable weather patterns and steady cane supply across key agricultural districts. Agricultural processing facilities in western states have activated transport and logistics networks to maintain steady raw cane delivery, while processing units in northern regions prepare to increase processing throughput as cane harvesting intensifies.

In addition to standard sweetener refining, domestic processing facilities are allocating significant cane syrup volumes toward ethanol production in support of the national renewable fuel blending mandate. Industry leaders project that the timely launch of milling operations will help maintain balanced domestic sugar reserves while advancing national targets for bioenergy integration.
