Leaders also noted the entry into force of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement and the conclusion of the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement as foundations for deeper economic integration.
On regional security, the leaders condemned terrorism in all forms including cross-border terrorism and called for action against groups listed under UN Security Council sanctions. They expressed concern over conflicts in Europe and West Asia, welcomed the April 8 ceasefire in the Middle East and called for freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Nordic countries reiterated support for India’s bid for permanent membership in a reformed UN Security Council. Leaders agreed that the fourth India-Nordic Summit will be hosted by Finland. The Oslo meeting underscored India’s strategic pivot toward Northern Europe as it seeks partners in green transition, space technology and blue economy development.
Business delegations from Indian and Nordic companies held parallel meetings in Oslo to explore deals in pharmaceuticals, renewable energy equipment and digital services. Trade officials noted that India-Nordic commerce reached approximately $19 billion in 2024 with significant presence of firms such as Nokia, Volvo and IKEA in Indian markets. The summit also addressed India’s application to the Nuclear Suppliers Group and Nordic support for UN Security Council reform including permanent membership for India. Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store emphasized that Northern Europe views India as an essential partner in navigating technological transformation and climate transition.
