Probe Agency Summons TMC Leader Abhishek Banerjee In Teacher Recruitment Scam

The Enforcement Directorate issued a fresh summons to Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee for questioning in a widening teacher recruitment scandal, agency officials said Saturday.

Investigators want Banerjee to appear before financial crime detectives probing alleged cash-for-jobs schemes that allegedly siphoned public funds through rigged hiring lists in West Bengal.

The summons arrives as courts continue hearing petitions from candidates who claim merit lists were manipulated despite qualifying exam scores.

Banerjee, a nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and a prominent party organizer, has previously denied wrongdoing and accused central agencies of political targeting.

ED officers are tracing bank transfers, shell companies and middlemen accused of collecting bribes from applicants promised government teaching posts.

Legal teams for the leader said they are reviewing the notice and will respond through proper channels, while opposition parties demanded uninterrupted cooperation with investigators.

The case has become a flashpoint in Bengal politics, with federal probes intersecting state education policy ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
