SoftBank Commits 75 Billion Euros to Build 5 Gigawatts of AI Infrastructure in France

SoftBank announced a commitment of 75 billion euros to develop 5 gigawatts of artificial intelligence infrastructure capacity across France.

The investment targets data centers, power supply, and networking assets needed to train and serve large AI models at scale. Five gigawatts represents a substantial electricity footprint comparable to major industrial regions.

France has sought to attract technology investment through energy planning, subsidies, and EU-aligned digital policy. SoftBank’s pledge aligns with European ambitions to host AI compute rather than depend entirely on U.S. facilities.

The announcement coincided with broader Gulf and European infrastructure deals as telecom and investment conglomerates race to secure land and power for AI campuses. Delivery timelines and local partnerships will determine how quickly capacity comes online.
