Two British men charged with helping Iran over Fairford airbase incident

British prosecutors formally charged two UK nationals under national security statutes with providing illicit assistance to Iranian intelligence agencies in connection with a security incident near RAF Fairford. The Crown Prosecution Service announced that the suspects face criminal counts under the National Security Act for conducting hostile surveillance and collecting sensitive reconnaissance data near the Royal Air Force installation in Gloucestershire, which regularly hosts Allied long-range strategic bomber deployments.

Counter-terrorism police officers arrested the individuals following an intensive domestic security investigation coordinated with British intelligence services. Authorities stated in court documents that the defendants gathered intelligence on base perimeter defenses, aircraft movements, and operational access points on behalf of a foreign power. Crown prosecutors emphasized during preliminary court proceedings that the alleged actions posed serious risks to military personnel and national defense assets, prompting the court to remand both men in custody pending trial.
