U.P. Police constitutes SIT to probe accident involving vehicles in Rahul Gandhi’s convoy

The Uttar Pradesh Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into a multi-vehicle collision involving Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s motorcade along the Purvanchal Expressway. The incident occurred on Monday while Gandhi was traveling through Sultanpur district following his appearance at a local district court. Several vehicles assigned to media personnel, local security escorts, and party workers collided in sequence, sustaining moderate vehicular damage.

Senior police officials confirmed that Gandhi and key members of his security detail escaped unharmed and safely continued their onward journey toward Lucknow. However, at least four occupants traveling in the rear escort vehicles sustained minor injuries and received immediate first aid at a nearby community health center. Preliminary assessments suggested that sudden braking triggered a chain-reaction collision amidst congested highway movement and rain-slicked road conditions.

The newly established investigative unit, supervised by an Additional Superintendent of Police, has been tasked with analyzing forensic scene data, dashboard camera footage, and traffic surveillance recordings. Investigators will examine whether standard VIP convoy distance protocols were breached and whether third-party civilian traffic interfered with the designated route, with a formal findings report expected within a week.
