Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan lays foundation stone for ₹110-crore infrastructure at Gauhati University

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan laid the foundation stone on Tuesday for major infrastructural development projects worth one hundred and ten crore rupees at Gauhati University, emphasizing the pivotal role of premier educational institutions in national rejuvenation.

The approved expansion package includes advanced multi-disciplinary research laboratories, smart digital lecture complexes, modern residential hostels for postgraduate students, and specialized centers for indigenous botanical and geological studies. Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and state education minister Ranoj Pegu joined the ceremony at the university’s Jalukbari campus, where hundreds of scholars gathered to mark the milestone.

In his address, the Vice President urged the student community to cultivate academic excellence while resolutely shunning substance abuse and illicit narcotics. Radhakrishnan emphasized that youth energy must be channeled into scientific innovation, civil entrepreneurship, and sustainable regional development to fulfill the vision of a developed India by 2047.

University Vice Chancellor Pratap Jyoti Handique expressed gratitude to the Union and state governments for capital funding allocations, noting that the modern facilities will accelerate accreditation rankings and foster high-impact scientific research across the entire northeastern region.
