PFRDA and Rural Development Ministry partner for ‘Pension Sakhis’ grassroots campaign

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority entered into a strategic institutional partnership with the Union Ministry of Rural Development on Thursday to launch a nationwide grassroots financial security campaign titled Pension Sakhis. The initiative enlists trained women leaders from Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission self-help groups to act as certified retirement counselors across rural districts.

Under the signed agreement, participating rural mobilizers will conduct community financial awareness drives educating agrarian workers, daily wage laborers, and rural artisans about statutory old-age benefits under the Atal Pension Yojana and the National Pension System. The counselors will be equipped with handheld biometric authentication tablets to facilitate paperless on-the-spot enrollment and automatic recurring contribution setups.

PFRDA leadership emphasized that women-led mobilization has consistently delivered the highest retention and savings rates across rural credit ecosystems. The ministry has set a target of certifying fifty thousand Pension Sakhis within the next fiscal quarter to bring millions of unorganized agrarian households into the formal social security safety net.
