Chinese President Xi Jinping calls on SCO member states to prioritize regional security

Chinese President Xi Jinping urged leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation to prioritize regional security cooperation and collective stability during his address at the heads-of-state summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Xi underscored the necessity of reinforcing mutual trust and coordinated law enforcement among member nations amid escalating global geopolitical tensions and economic fragmentation. He highlighted counter-terrorism, border integrity, and intelligence exchange as primary pillars required to shield Eurasian economies from external instability. The Chinese leader advocated expanding the Global Security Initiative framework within the SCO, emphasizing that regional progress depends upon a peaceful security architecture.

The summit brought together leaders and senior delegations from member countries, including India, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, and Central Asian republics. Discussions focused on enhancing transport connectivity, harmonizing cross-border customs procedures, and establishing resilient supply chains capable of withstanding external economic sanctions and financial volatility.

Host President Sadyr Japarov welcomed the collective security proposals, affirming Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to multilateral cooperation. At the conclusion of plenary sessions, member states signed a series of joint declarations pledging closer security coordination and institutional cooperation across Central and South Asia.

Xi also held bilateral discussions on the summit sidelines with regional leaders, reviewing progress on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project designed to shorten overland freight routes across Eurasia. Chinese delegates emphasized that joint counter-terrorism drills under the SCO Peace Mission framework will continue to be conducted to enhance interoperability among national military forces.
