IIT Roorkee confirmed a temporary cloud storage misconfiguration on June 2, 2026, linked to the JEE Advanced 2026 portal after 16-year-old cybersecurity researcher Rylen Anil reported the issue.
Officials said technical work to help candidates access admit cards caused the error, which engineers corrected the same day. The affected storage was read-only, preventing alteration or deletion of records.
Cloud access logs showed no bulk downloads, with access limited to less than 0.05% of stored data. The Ministry of Education said examination outcomes, marks and rankings remained secure.
Anil cautioned against describing the incident as a mass leak, saying he downloaded only a small sample to document the flaw. The Cockroach Janata Party scheduled a June 6 protest at Jantar Mantar demanding Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.
