India Hosts Roundtable on AI Governance and Regulation for State Officials

The Indian government convened a roundtable for state officials focused on frameworks for governing and regulating artificial intelligence.

Participants from state administrations joined central policymakers to discuss how AI deployment in public services and the private sector should be supervised. Topics likely included risk assessment, accountability standards, and coordination between state and federal authorities.

AI governance has gained urgency as generative and automated systems spread across education, health, finance, and law enforcement. State governments face pressure to adopt guidelines that encourage innovation while mitigating bias, privacy, and security concerns.

The roundtable format allowed exchange of preliminary approaches before more formal rules take shape. India’s federal structure means effective AI regulation will depend partly on alignment between New Delhi and state capitals.
