India’s Gallantry Awards Ceremony Phase 1 Held at Rashtrapati Bhavan

President Droupadi Murmu conferred 51 gallantry awards, including Kirti Chakras and Vir Chakras, to armed forces personnel at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The first phase of the annual honors recognized acts of valor in operational and peacetime settings.

Recipients included personnel from the army, navy and air force who demonstrated exceptional courage. The Kirti Chakra and Vir Chakra are among India’s highest peacetime and wartime gallantry decorations respectively.

Family members of awardees attended the investiture ceremony in New Delhi. The president lauded the sacrifices and dedication of the honored service members.

Additional phases of the gallantry awards ceremony are scheduled to recognize more personnel in the coming weeks. The awards are announced annually on the eve of Republic Day and Independence Day.
