Over 40 Tibetan Youth Congress protesters detained outside Chinese Embassy in New Delhi on PRC National Day

Delhi Police took more than forty activists affiliated with the Tibetan Youth Congress into preventive custody after they staged a spirited protest demonstration outside the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in New Delhi. The demonstration was organized to coincide with China’s National Day, with Tibetan activists chanting slogans demanding complete independence for Tibet and calling for an immediate end to cultural suppression across the Himalayan region.

Protesters carrying Tibetan national flags, protest placards, and banners attempted to march toward the heavily fortified embassy gates in the Chanakyapuri diplomatic enclave before being intercepted by multi-layered police barricades. Law enforcement officers physically contained the demonstrating youths, escorting them into waiting police buses before transporting them to regional police stations for preventive detention.

Tibetan community leaders addressing media representatives emphasized that October 1 is observed by Tibetan, Southern Mongolian, and Uyghur communities as a day of mourning rather than celebration, protesting decades of ideological assimilation and political marginalization. Police authorities confirmed that the detained activists were held under preventive civil statutes and released later in the evening without formal criminal charges.
