PM Modi inaugurates fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026 at Yashobhoomi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inaugurated the fifth edition of the prestigious SEMICON India 2026 conference at the Yashobhoomi convention center in New Delhi on Thursday. The premier international summit, convened under the central theme ‘Silicon to Systems’, attracted hundreds of global semiconductor chief executives, materials scientists, and advanced hardware fabricators.

In his keynote address, Modi underscored that India is actively dismantling regulatory hurdles to transform into a trusted global hub for chip design, advanced packaging, and commercial wafer fabrication. He highlighted that multiple mega-scale fabrication plants and assembly-testing facilities sanctioned under the India Semiconductor Mission are now approaching operational commissioning across Gujarat, Assam, and Karnataka.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the domestic microelectronics ecosystem through long-term capital subsidies, specialized talent development programs, and reliable renewable energy corridors. International industry leaders at the gathering signed preliminary technology transfer agreements to establish indigenous testing laboratories and chemical supply clusters near manufacturing zones.
