FSSAI Issues Notices to Flipkart India and Open Secret Over Alleged Insects Found in Dates Products

FSSAI sent notices to e-commerce marketplace Flipkart India and snack brand Open Secret after online videos claimed insects were found inside packaged date products sold to consumers.

The regulator directed both companies to trace batch numbers, submit testing records and explain quality-control gaps in warehousing and last-mile delivery.

Flipkart said it has delisted affected listings pending laboratory results, while Open Secret emphasized tamper-evident packaging and third-party audits.

Food safety lawyers noted that platform liability and brand liability may be adjudicated differently if contamination occurred before dispatch versus during transit.
