PM Modi Asks States to Balance AI Opportunities With Safeguards Against Emerging Risks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Indian states to embrace artificial intelligence opportunities while building adequate safeguards against emerging risks. Modi said the technology could accelerate development but requires thoughtful governance at the state level.

Addressing state leaders, the prime minister called for balanced policies that promote AI adoption in governance, agriculture and healthcare without compromising privacy or security. He emphasized that states must develop their own regulatory frameworks suited to local conditions.

Modi’s remarks come as India positions itself as a major player in the global AI race. Several states have already launched AI initiatives in public service delivery and economic planning.

The prime minister warned that unchecked deployment could exacerbate inequality and misinformation. He encouraged interstate collaboration on shared standards and best practices for responsible AI use.
